Flights & transportation

All of your child’s travel and on-tour transportation with the group is included in your price. That means EF books every round-trip (and internal!) flight, air-conditioned private coach bus, overnight ferry, train, and water taxi for each traveler. You can see every mode of transportation that will be on your child’s EF tour before signing them up by accessing their teacher’s unique tour page.

Flights 101

Whether this is your child’s first time on a plane or their first time traveling without family, flying with their peers is a great way to kick off a journey of experiential learning together.

When will I receive my child’s flights?

You’ll receive their final flight information about 21 days before they leave.

Will my child’s flights be direct, or will they have layovers?

Groups can experience direct or connecting flights, depending on factors like the time of year and the airport they’re departing from.

What happens when they land?

Your child's group will be picked up at the terminal by their Tour Director, who will be their guide throughout the entire tour. In most cases, groups will be bussed right from the airport to the city center to begin exploring. However, if your group is traveling a significant distance (such as coast to coast), they will typically arrive the night before activities begin and go straight to the hotel to rest.

Train Trips 101

For some Northeast itineraries, your child's group may travel to and from their destination by Amtrak train instead of by plane. Just like every other mode of transportation on an EF tour, all train travel is fully included in your tour price—and EF handles all the logistics from start to finish.

When will I receive my child’s train travel details?

You'll receive final travel information, including departure stations and times, about 21 days before the tour departs.

Are train routes direct?

Yes. No transfers are required when traveling up and down the Eastern Seaboard except when departing from Albany (groups will transfer through NYC).

Where will they depart from?

Groups depart from major rail stations, which include:

  • Boston South Station

  • Providence Station

  • New York Penn Station (34th Street)

  • Philadelphia 30th Street Station

  • Albany-Rensselaer Station

  • Washington Union Station

  • Norfolk Station

  • New Haven Union Station

Don’t see your preferred station listed here? Reach out to our team, and we’ll see what we can do!

What happens when they arrive?

Similar to flights, your child's group will be picked up at the station by their Tour Director.

Relax and recharge on the bus

Every EF tour uses private, air-conditioned coach buses, whether travelers are headed across a city or across country lines. Bus rides are the perfect time for travelers to rest, connect with new friends, and take in all the sights as their Tour Director or an expert local guide narrates their journey.
